Neighborly chit chat

When my husband and I got our dog 6 years ago we got into the habit of going out after dinner and doing at least one loop of the street.  We were amazed how quickly we met neighbors that we had never talked to before.  One of the neighbors that we met was an elderly woman named Betty.  She lived around the corner from us, with her son. Even though there are times when we’re short on time or just don’t feel like chatting, I try to stop and spend a few minutes catching up with Betty.  She’s roughly the same age as my mom and I would like to think that if my mom ever found herself lonely someone would show her the same kindness.  And who knows, I may be that lonely woman someday.
